Goshen was the fertile delta country of Egypt where the Nile River fanned out to enter the Mediterranean Sea.  When Israel arrived in Egypt, he rejoiced over seeing his son, Joseph, that he assumed was dead.  He felt as if he could now die in peace.  Goshen was far enough from Pharaoh’s palace that they would not be disturbed by the shepherds’ flocks.  The Egyptians did not tolerate shepherds.  However, the land of Goshen was good for flocks and good for other growth.  Joseph gave his father specific instructions on how to address Pharaoh in order to get the desired assignment.

A combination of God’s favor and Joseph’s wisdom helped Israel settle in a great location.  For 130 years, Israel followed God in a twisted set of events, blessings, losses, quests, and resolutions.  Where have you journeyed?  Where are you headed?  Uncertainty is a frustrating part of life, but it tests our faith and drives us to an utter dependence upon God.  We can let uncertainty drive us to our own solutions, or to utter despair; OR, we can seek the face of God with abandon and believe that He will lead us to the path of blessing and honor, just like He did with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.  Which path will you take?
