From the seventy people that joined together as the descendents of Abraham and the nation of Israel in Egypt, the nation grew to a mighty nation, being very fruitful and filling the land of Egypt.  Then there arose a new king in Egypt, who did not know Joseph.  All the good will extended to the family of Israel was now null and void, because the Pharaoh did not have a vested interest in Joseph.  The help Joseph gave Egypt was now a very distant memory.  And Pharaoh now sees this group becoming increasing numerous and more powerful than ever, and began to perceive them as a threat.

As a means of controlling the multitude among them, Pharaoh determined to turn them into slaves, and put taskmasters over them to control them and keep them from having time to plot against the Egyptians.  Pharaoh then instructed the Egyptian midwives to kill all the Hebrew babies that were male.  They did not obey the order, and the Israelites still grew in number.  It was during this time that the eventual leader that would liberate the Jews was born.  Moses’ mother hid him from Pharaoh for three months, and then hid him in the reeds by the river’s bank.  His sister stood guard.

One day, Pharaoh’s daughter came to the river to the river to bathe and found Moses, and determined to  save him.  Moses’ sister came out to ask if she could find a nurse for Moses, to which Pharaoh’s daughter agreed.  After he was weaned, Moses was taken to the palace and he became Pharaoh”s daughter’s adopted son.

Two trajectories are at work here.  Israel is becoming the great nation that God promised Abraham they would be.  They are a great multitude, more numerous that the stars.  Some estimates are that Israel was already numbering in the vicinity of 3 million.  They were definitely more numerous than the Egyptians at this point.  So, Israel was seeing the vision and dream of its future come true in a powerful way.  The other trajectory was that of a Hebrew boy, Moses, who was saved from a death sentence and was now going to be reared in the King’s Palace.  These two trajectories are on a collision course that will lead to the deliverance of God’s chosen people.  However, this did not happen by accident.  God set all of this in motion for the deliverance of His chosen people.

Whatever is happening with you right now is not an accident.  No, God is working on your behalf to do miraculous things.  The covenant nature of our relationship with God is powerful.  Because He has promised, He will perform.  Because He said it, He will do it.  Do not let circumstances or detractors ever make you doubt God’s Holy Purpose in and for your life!
