The other priestly garments served specific purposes during the ministry unto the Lord.  The robe had a hem with pomegranates and bells sewn to it, which would serve as an alarm system for the high priest when he ministered in the Holy of Holies.  If the priest entered the section with the Ark and had not cleansed himself of sin, he would die in the presence of the Lord.  As long as the bells and pomegranates banged against one another and made a ringing sound, then the other priests knew that the high priest lived and ministered before the Lord.  The linen undergarments served to separate the flesh of the priest from the holy garments.  The plate of gold on the holy crown read, “Holiness to the Lord.”  This declared the holiness of the servant of God.

The significance of these items rests in the following.  The bells and pomegranates remind us of the need to come before God with clean hands and a pure heart.  We cannot presume upon the Holiness of God if we have not first gone by the cross of Christ for cleansing.  The linen undergarments show us the picture of Christ’s blood covering our sins and cleansing us so that we may put on the garments of the priesthood and minister before the Lord.  We must not allow the stain of our flesh to sully our testimony or ministry.  Finally, the plate represented the mark or imprint of God upon our lives,  We must walk with the identification of our Lord upon our lives, the Holiness of God.  We must walk Holy unto the Lord.  Live your life in the grace and knowledge of the Lord in a way that points to the powerful forgiveness wrought by faith in Christ.  That forgiveness and covering makes us able to minister in His name.
