On the first day of the seventh month, the Feast of Trumpets would occur with a Sabbath-rest and a memorial of blowing of trumpets.  On the tenth day of the seventh month the Day of Atonement would occur.  On that day, no work would occur, and every person would afflict their soul.  That means they would humble their soul before God.  This day was a day when God was petitioned for the covering of all of Israel’s sins.  It was a solemn day before the Lord.

The Feast of Trumpets was, perhaps, an announcement of things to come.  The trumpets sounded the announcement that redemption was coming.  The Day of Atonement was the day that redemption was to be applied.

As Christians, we must sound the joyous call to redemption in a lost world today.  And when we sound the call to redemption, we can then lead them to a place of atonement by the blood of Jesus Christ.  Whereas the blood of bulls made atonement for the Israelites, the blood of Jesus Christ was a once for all atonement for sins.  He is the Lord of the Day of Atonement!
