Moses revisits the principle of leadership and the multiplication of ministry. As he did in the wilderness at the behest of Jethro, Moses established leaders over every tribe of Israel. Moses recognized that one man could not adequately lead a nation. He had the people choose leaders from among themselves and made them heads over the people, with leaders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, tens, and other officers. They were to judge righteously among the people, and not show partiality. The cases too hard for Moses would be sent up to Moses.
These principles of leadership are still relevant today. No one man can rule over a large group without some assistance. As pastors, it is important to enlist people to work as undershepherds in order to carry out a competent and caring ministry. A team can do so much more than an individual. Like-minded people can accomplish multiple tasks and honor God in all that they do.
