Giants! This fear of giants cost a generation of Israelites to miss the blessing of the Promised Land. The giants in the path to Canaan were fierce, withstanding Israel on numerous occasions, but without success. Israel is recounting their defeat of Sihon and Og here, in an effort to remind the Israelites of the delivering power of God. While no one relishes the idea of war, but if you have to fight, it is always better to remember the role God played in the fight. He is our refuge and strength, our help in trouble. He is our giant-killer, even when the giant’s bed is made of iron and 13 ft long and 6 ft wide.
What shall we fear when God is for us? What is too big for God? What can cause God to shake in His shoes? Nothing, absolutely nothing. So if God defeated Sihon and Og, He can defeat the giants in your life as well!
