God established the Israelites as His own special people, set high above all nations in praise, name, and honor, a holy people to God.  However, His blessing of them was predicated on them His statutes and judgments.  If the people obeyed His voice, He would be their God and bless them.

Moses then echoed the need to keep the commandments of God.  He further instructed them to take large stones and whitewash them with lime.  After that, they would write all the words of the law on them as they enter the Promised Land.  They would be set up on Mount Ebal, along with an altar to the Lord, built without a tool.  After it is built, they would offer burnt offerings and peace offerings and eat and rejoice before the Lord.

When going into this new, promised land, the people of God were clearly instructed to obey the voice of God.  While we live in a covenant of grace, we still need to live in relationship with God to the degree that His voice is clear and His will is an integral part of your daily life.  When God’s will is the central part of your plan for life, His blessings will follow more fully.
