Jair, a Gileadite, judged Israel twenty-two years. His unique feature was that he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys and had thirty towns. After twenty-two years of peace, Jair died and was buried in Camon.
After the death of Jair, Israel did evil in the sight of God, serving the Baals and Ashtoreths, and even more gods than ever before. God grew angry with them, and the Israelites fell into the hands of the Philistines and Ammonites. They were under their oppression for eighteen years. They were severely oppressed. Then they cried out to God, confessing their sins. God reminded them that they had been delivered from Egypt and from the Amorites, and the other nations of the land. He accused them of forsaking him and following these other gods. They again confessed, and gathered together in Mizpah. The leaders of Gilead agreed to follow the leadership of anyone who would begin the fight against Ammon.
This is just one more example of people straying from what they know to be right in order to follow after things (gods) that are contrary to God’s plan and purpose for their lives. Walk with God, walk away from sinful distractions!
