Jephthah was a mighty man of valor, born to a harlot.  His half-brothers in Gilead’s house drove him out, denying his right to an inheritance.  He fled and dwelt in Tob.  When the Ammonites made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to Jephthah and asked him to be their leader.  He reminded them that they had sent him away.  They confessed to their treachery, and agreed to serve him if he led them into battle.  Jehpthah sent message to Ammon to determine why they were attacking Israel.  They wanted their land back that Israel took when they came out of Egypt.  Jephthah responded that God had delivered the land to them, that they did not even have to fight for it.  Therefore, it was God that took their land.  The Ammonites did not respond favorably to Jephthah.

Jephthah proceeded to advance toward Ammon as the Spirit of the Lord came upon him.  Jephthah made a vow to the Lord that if God would deliver Ammon into his hand, that Jephthah would offer the first thing that comes out of the doors of his house to meet him upon his return. Jephthah advanced to Ammon and the Lord delivered unto Jephthah and they were subdued under Israel.

God will give you victory over your enemies when you offer Him praise and faith.  When God calls you to challenge the enemy, He will go before you and fight the battle for you.  Victory comes through submission to the Lord!
