1 Make haste, O God, to deliver me!Make haste to help me, O Lord!

2 Let them be ashamed and confounded

Who seek my life;

Let them be turned back and confused

Who desire my hurt.

3 Let them be turned back because of their shame,

Who say, “Aha, aha!”

4 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;

And let those who love Your salvation say continually,

“Let God be magnified!”

5 But I am poor and needy;

Make haste to me, O God!

You are my help and my deliverer;

O Lord, do not delay.

This psalm of David is a cry for help in a time of attack.  David is feeling not just a sense of oppression, but a sense of urgency.  The attack is real and imminent. David feels the need to call on God for a speedy response.  He prays for shame and confusion on his enemies, but for the righteous to be glad and rejoice and praise their God.  David considers himself poor and needy at this moment, in need of God’s help and deliverance.

In moments of desperation and fear, when anxiety is overwhelming, cry out.  Cry out and invoke the presence of Your Mighty God.  He is our source and strength, a present help in trouble.  He is the power of deliverance in our lives.  Even when the enemy pursues, finds, and shouts “Aha!” God is with you, and He will deliver you.  Cry out!
