Love his wife
Love his children
Love his church
Love his Lord
Fathers Should Be:
Providing
Present
Praying
Teaching
Modeling & Guiding
Giving opportunities (opening doors)
I. Fathers Should Be Providing
1 Timothy 5:8 (NKJV): 8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
II. Fathers Should Be Present
Deuteronomy 6:4–7 (NKJV)
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Wife and children must be more important than sports, hobbies, leisure activities.
If your “fun” is making it hard to be connected with your family, find some different fun that you can all enjoy together!
III. Fathers Should Be Praying
John 17:9–10 (NKJV): 9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.
IV. Fathers Should Be Teaching
Deuteronomy 6:7 (NKJV): 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
V. Fathers Should Be Modeling and Guiding
Colossians 3:20–21 (NKJV)
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
VI. Fathers Should Be Giving opportunities (opening doors)
2 Corinthians 12:14–15 (NKJV): 14 … And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you. For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls….
Sons and Daughters Matter
Children should be:
Obeying
Following
Listening
Imitating
Taking Advantage of Opportunities
I. Children Should Be Obeying
Proverbs 6:20 (NLT): 20 My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
II. Children should be Following
1 Kings 11:6 (NLT)
6 In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; he refused to follow the Lord completely, as his father, David, had done.
III. Children should be Listening
Proverbs 1:8 (NLT): 8 My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
IV. Children should be Imitating
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV): 1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
V. Children should be Taking Advantage of Opportunities
Ecclesiastes 12:4 (NLT): 4 Remember him before the door to life’s opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint.

•Fathers have a very distinct role in the family. Their leadership is essential.
