Jacob finally made it back to Canaan, where his father Isaac still lived, even though far advanced in years. He and Esau were there when he died, and they buried him together. Although Esau was not the chosen son through whom the covenant would be fulfilled, we find a record of his blessings as well. He was still a son of Isaac. However, he saw that his flocks, herds, and family were too much to dwell with Israel’s flocks, herds, and family, so he moved from the region in the land of Canaan where Isaac had returned, and lived in Mount Seir. They became the Edomites.
When Jacob (Israel) left Canaan, he had no idea when or if he would return. God blessed him and gave him assurances that he would return. Israel chose to believe God, obey God, and live in the covenant blessings. We are faced with tragedy, distractions, and fear on every side, but God is speaking to us today to believe. Trust in the Lord! Live by faith! Cling to the covenant sealed by the cross and the blood of Jesus. God will take care of you!
