The isolation of the unclean was for a specific reason: the Israelites basically quarantined all people who had possibly infectious diseases, or those who had touched the dead, as the dead could harbor disease as well.  While this had a physical application, the spiritual application should be obvious as well: those things that have a sinfully infectious nature should be removed from the life of a believer as well.  While God does not call Christians to live in caves and ignore society, he does call His people–even today–to come out from among the world.  This means to have a different level of morality, and spiritually-minded nature, a godly lifestyle that is different from that to which the world adheres.

The command to offer confession and restitution involves the commission of a sin in violation of God’s will and person.  Restitution was to be made to the person who was wronged during the commission of this sin.  In addition to the amount determined to be the restitution, one-fifth was to be added to it.  This is true for us today as well to a degree.  Even though we live in a covenant of grace, it is important to “keep our accounts short” as one early American author spoke.  Don’t hold on to wrongs done or slights committed.  Instead, rectify wrongs and correct injustices, especially as much as it depends on you.  You are responsible to make things right when you do wrong.  Follow the example of the Israelites and be righteous in your relationships!
