How Do I Love We?: Through the Spirit

From the Series

“How Do I Love We?”

Through Love and The Spirit
Galatians 5:13 – 26

Galatians 5:13–26 (NKJV)
13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Liberty to Serve and Do Well
Not Hypergrace

Serve One Another
Love turns you into a servant

Love Others As Yourself
Neighbors need love. Where else should they find it if the child of God is not sharing it?

Sinful Liberty Can Lead Us to Devour and Consume
We will destroy our own spiritual life and the life of the Church if we bite each other.

Special Application: The Family

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Walk in the Spirit

The Flesh cannot operate in the express presence of the Holy Spirit. When we walk in the Spirit, the flesh cannot act freely

Flesh v. Spirit

The Wrestling Match of the inner man is constant. It is imperative that one maintain a close connection with the Holy Spirit in order to conquer the fleshly yearnings of the flesh.

Abolish the Law
The law reveals sin. Sin leads to death. Be led by the Spirit and you will not be guilty of the law!

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Works of the Flesh

Sexual Sins (adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness)
Worship Sins (idolatry, sorcery)
Relational Sins (hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, envy)
Religious Sins (heresies)
Public Sins (murders, drunkenness, revelries)

The Eternal Effect of Sin
Eternal Death in Hell

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Fruit of the Spirit

Love (the root of all the other fruit)
Joy
Peace
Longsuffering
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control

The Eternal Blessing of the Spirit
The flesh is crucified!

Live in the Spirit, Walk in the Spirit

Things to Avoid: Conceit, Provocation, Envy
If you glory, glory in the goodness of God.
If you provoke, provoke to good works
If you envy or desire, desire the presence of God in your life.
