After Moses broke the first set of tablets at the occasion of Israel’s rebellion at Sinai, God instructed him to cut out two new tablets and bring them up on the mountain. He did as God asked, and then God inscribed the commandments again, and Moses places the tablets in a wooden ark. Moses was on the mountain 40 days and nights, just as the first time.
The Law was summarized by an over-arching principle: love God. The principle was expanded by including fearing the Lord, walking in His ways, loving Him, serving Him, and keeping the commandments of the Lord. God then reviews the need to be compliant with God’s will, and treat your fellow man with grace and dignity.
God, in His grace, gave the commandments again, and Moses recounts the need to serve God and love Him wholly. Today, we should follow the very same advice: love God with all your heart, and live in His grace. God wants to bless you and lead you. Follow Him!
