Joshua and the army of Israel went against numerous Southern cities and their kings. Joshua defeated Makkedah, Libnah, Lachish, Gezer, Eglon, Hebron, Debir, and all the mountain country, and the South (Negev region), and lowland and wilderness slopes. Joshua conquered them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, from Goshen to Gibeon. Then Joshua returned to Gilgal, the Lord having given him the victory.
Joshua then was attacked by forces from the North, including Madon, Himron, Achshaph, kings from the north, in the mountains, in the plain south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, the heights of Dor, the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hitties, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Hivites. Their armies met together at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel. They outnumbered the sand on the seashore. God encouraged Joshua not to fear, that He would deliver them into His hands, and that they should hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire. The next day, Joshua and all the army of Israel attacked them and they were all destroyed. Joshua obeyed the command to hamstring the horses and burn the chariots.
Therefore, Joshua destroyed all the cities and kingdoms of Canaan. Nothing was left undone. The moral of the story is this: finish what you start in obedience to the Lord. When you complete the work, God is glorified and order is restored!
