God left certain nations in Israel in order to test the generations of the children of Israel. Some did not know war, and God wanted them to be taught to know war. The Philistines, Canaanites, Sidonians, and the Hivites were left. These were also left to test Israel as to whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord. Unfortunately, the Israelites married among them, and they served their gods.
This was the beginning of a serious downturn in the life of Israel. It is so important to guard one’s heart, whether it be in religion, faith, or just simple everyday practices. Guard your heart from the gods of the nations, and be set apart for the Lord’s service, use, and worship. It is never okay to flirt with the devil!
