David hid from Saul’s pursuit in strongholds in the Wilderness of Ziph.  Jonathan went to David in the woods, and they made a covenant.  Men sent word to Saul that David was in Ziph, and he began to pursue him.  He moved to the Wilderness of Maon, and Saul followed him there.  Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side of the mountain.  Saul’s men began to encircle David, but a messenger came to say that the Philistines were invading the land.  Saul returned to fight the Philistines, and David escaped.  They called the place Sela Hammahlekoth, or Rock of Escape.  David then went to the strongholds of En Gedi.

What we see in this story is that David, the anointed of the Lord, was pursued by his enemy, but God provided a way of escape.  So many places in the Bible, we see either God’s promise of or His action in providing deliverance from trouble for His people.  We stress and struggle with our problems and with opposition.  We grieve over our situations.  However, we serve a great God and He is able to deliver us!  Trust in the Lord.  Believe His Word!  When problems come, see the desired result in your mind, even if you do not see it with your natural eyes.  Whether here or there, you will be delivered, so trust in Him!
