The Nation United Under David; Jerusalem Conquered (2 Samuel 5:1 – 16; 1 Chronicles 11:1 – 9, 14:1 – 7)

All the tribes of Israel came to David and Hebron and rehearsed the fact that David was anointed king and led its armies, and was destined to be their king.  They entered into covenant and anointed David king over Israel.  David was 30 years old when he began to reign, and reigned 40 years total (7 1/2 over Judah, and 33 over all of Israel).

The king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites.  They refused David and mocked him.  Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion and called it the City of David.  He went on and became great, and the Lord God was with him.  Hiram, king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and brought him cedar trees, carpenters, and masons, and they built David a house.  David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, and had more sons and daughters.

Finally, the fruition of a long-awaited destiny had come to pass.  Years of serving Saul, years of running from Saul, and years of civil war had finally ended, and David was king over all of Israel.  The high road does lead to success.  The way of loyalty leads to favor.  The people knew he was a Godly man and that he would be king, and now he was finally on the throne.  Live Godly, behave loyally, walk rightly, and trust God to bring you into your place of destiny!
