Rehoboam and Abijam (1 Kings 14:21 – 15:8; 2 Chronicles 12:1 – 14:2)

Rehoboam was king of Judah at age 41.  Judah did evil under his reign.  They built high places, sacred pillars, wooden images.  In his fifth year, Shishak of Egypt came up to fight against Judah.  He took away their treasures and gold shields, so Rehoboam had bronze shields made in their place.  There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life, and Rehoboam died.

Abijam became king over Judah after Rehoboam.  He only reigned for three years.  He was evil like his father, and not loyal to God like David.  The Lord only set him up because of His promise to David.

The longer you walk contrary to God’s will, the more it will cost you.  Judah began to lose their riches, their peace, and their standing with God, all because of idolatry and sin.  Be sure that you recognize their example and follow God with all of your heart!  Keep what you have and receive more by obeying God in everyday life!
