Nadab and Baasha in Israel (1 Kings 15:25 – 16:7 )

Nadab reigned in Israel after the death of Jeroboam.  He only lasted two years, and did evil in the sight of God.  Baasha conspired against him and killed him at Gibbethon during a battle with the Philistines.  Baasha then reigned in his place.  He killed all the house of Jeroboam.  This fulfilled the prophecy of Ahijah against Jeroboam’s house.  There was war between Asa and Baasha all their days.

Baasha also walked in the ways of his evil fathers.  Jehu, the son of Hanani, spoke to Baasha a prophecy of judgement.  He was judged for leading Israel to idolatry and sin, and his posterity would die and be eaten by dogs and birds.

Although God gave kings opportunities to lead Israel rightly, they continued in their sins, and then were judged by God.  Someone needs to stop the cycle!  It has been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result.  It appears that the leaders of Israel were guilty of insanity!  If you are in a dysfunctional or ill-operating system, whether a family or a group of friends, it is possible and necessary to break the cycle and become independent of the evil people and systems that control you and take you down to destruction.  Break free from the insanity of the past and live free of idolatry and sinfulness.
