A Song of Ascents.
1 When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing.
Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
3 The LORD has done great things for us, And we are glad.
4 Bring back our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the South.
5 Those who sow in tears Shall reap in joy.
6 He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him.
A popular movie had a main character who said, “I’ll be back!” That line was fulfilled later when he came back with a better plan and better equipment. Israel here is in captivity, but is declaring its intention to come back to its rightful land. They even imagine the great things people will say about the Lord when they do return. Some of the most well-known words in the Scriptures are verses 5 and 6. Sow in tears and you will reap in joy. If you go weeping, bearing seed, you will come again rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. God will bring a great return to you if you trust Him and sow in faith. When things go wrong, when you don’t see the end, but in faith you know it is there, you can reach it! When the enemy says you have lost and there is no hope, just remind him, “I’ll Be Back!”
