The Virtuous Wife

Proverbs 31:10–19 (NKJV)

10 Who can find a virtuous wife?  For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle.

The writer asks a rhetorical question to make a point.  Who can find a virtuous wife?  This question speaks to the rarity of finding a wife that gets it.  A woman who knows the value of her love and care and serves with gladness is truly a find.  She is more valuable that fine jewels like rubies.  A husband can trust this virtuous wife, and her partnership makes the family prosper.  She looks out for the good of her husband and family, works hard, and is a good businessperson.  She is ambitious and does not sleep in, but rather makes the most of each day.  She buys and sells and makes a profit.  She is healthy and strengthens herself daily.  She pursues excellence and does not easily tire.  She is skilled at a trade and is not afraid to work it.  This virtuous wife is the joy of her husband and a great partner in life.  The next blog will discuss the further virtues of this woman and her husband’s many blessings.
