Do Not Fear

Isaiah 41:1-29

The Lord gives Isaiah a series of questions relating to how the enemies of Israel and Judah came against them and won victory.  God sent them!  Even though this may seem frightening and somehow not like a protector of the people, God gave sufficient warnings and–as a just God–had to punish sin and discipline His children.  Therefore, the armies came and were the instrument of that judgment and discipline.  However, God promises in verse ten that they need not be ashamed, for God is their God.  He promised to uphold them and to bring shame and disgrace upon their enemies when His people repent.

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)  10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

He reiterates in verse 14:

Isaiah 41:14–16 (NKJV)  14 “Fear not, you worm Jacob,
You men of Israel!
I will help you,” says the LORD
And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15 “Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth;
You shall thresh the mountains and beat them small,
And make the hills like chaff.
16 You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away,
And the whirlwind shall scatter them;
You shall rejoice in the LORD,
And glory in the Holy One of Israel.

He promises water to the thirsty, trees in the desolate places, and they will praise God for it all.

God then tells Israel that all idols and gods but Jehovah are futile and worthless, simply creations of man.  Even men who consider themselves god-like are useless in their dreaming.  God will send one Who will lead.  Repent, destroy your idols, and follow the true God, and LIVE!
