Doctrine – theology, the study of God;
The sages of ancient days, like Abraham, Moses, Solomon, Isaiah; Jesus, Peter, James, and John, Paul.
Heroes of our Faith like R. G. Spurling, A. J. Tomlinson, F. J. Lee; Wade Horton, Ray Hughes, James Slay.
Educators like Hollis Gause, French Arrington, Steve Land.
They and so many others have had a hand in forming the doctrine of the Christian Church
Doctrine is what the church believes about God. It is the codified statements of who the church believes God is. It is not just what an individual thinks, but a united statement of the church. Doctrine is not opinion. Doctrine must be based on Scripture, for doctrine is only true if it is supported by Scripture, and if it supports Scripture.
2 Timothy 3:10–17 (NKJV)
10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
Doctrine is an Anchor
Doctrine keeps you tethered to faith
Doctrine will carry you through trials and persecutions (and they will come)
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Continuing in the true doctrine you have learned, based on and along with the Holy Scriptures, you will be saved through faith.
Doctrine fuels faith, which fuels perseverance, which fuels salvation.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
You can count on the Scriptures. The Bible is reliable and true.
It is the foundation upon which our belief must stand. One cannot base any doctrine or belief on social constructs or political climates or the temperature of the culture. Doctrine must be unwaveringly based upon the Word of God!
True Doctrine alone will make one complete and equip them for good work in the Kingdom.
Acts 2:42–47 (NKJV)
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
The benefits of doctrine:
Wonders and Signs
46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
In Reputation, Influence, and Testimony
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten of the Father [the only-begotten; that is, of the essence of the Father, God of God], Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made [both in heaven and on earth];
Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down and was incarnate and was made man;
He suffered, and the third day He rose again, ascended into heaven; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
And in the Holy Ghost.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty; thence he will come to judge the living and the dead;
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the flesh, and eternal life. Amen.

That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. (Soteriology)
In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost. (Hagiology)Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.
