2 Corinthians 12:7–11 (NKJV)   7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Three thoughts:

1.  Pride, Complacency, or Disinterest get in the way of serving God.

2.  Grace During Adversity teaches faith.  The evidence of God’s grace is the foundation upon which miracles occur.

3.  When Adversity comes, the Power of Christ is revealed.  His strength is made perfect in our weakness

Pride

  • Powerful World Leaders like Hitler, Mussolini, Napoleon, all had a God-complex, and eventually were deposed or died in warfare.
  • Pride gets in the way of serving God
  • Adversity simply moves us to faith

Grace

  • My grace is sufficient….
  • God’s promise is the assurance that He will not leave us alone in our adversity.
  • If you know God, you know His great faithfulness.
  • If you know God, you can believe His promise.

Power

  • God’s power is absolute
  • God’s power is administered in love
  • God’s power is informed by perfect knowledge
  • God’s power is for our good

Takeaway Thoughts

  • Pride gets in the way of serving God
  • Grace during adversity teaches faith
  • When adversity comes, the Power of Christ is revealed
