From the Goal to the Growth: Edification (Part Three)

15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Truth in Love

  • “…but, speaking the truth in love…”
    • Truth does not have to cut
    • Truth can be truth and still heal
    • Truth in love gets the job done without so much collateral damage

Growing Up

  • “…may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ…”
    • Growing up is hard work
    • Growing up is awkward and uncomfortable
    • Growing up worthwhile

Knit Together

  • “…from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share…”
    • A well-tuned body has all its parts, and they all work well
    • What can your joint supply?

Organic Growth

  • “…causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
    • Growth is an organic process
    • The church needs to be organic
    • Definition

Takeaway Thoughts

  • Growth:
    • Speak the Truth in Love
    • Grow Up
    • Do Your Share
    • Edify
