Jonah 2:4–7 (NKJV)
4 Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight;
Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’
5 The waters surrounded me, even to my soul;
The deep closed around me;
Weeds were wrapped around my head.
6 I went down to the moorings of the mountains;
The earth with its bars closed behind me forever;
Yet You have brought up my life from the pit,
O LORD, my God.
When Jonah realized his plight, he made the best call: He began to remember the blessings of God and trusted in Him. Although he was out of sight, he knew he would see Jerusalem again. Though he was underwater, down to the bottom of the mountains, he would be brought up again. He knew Yahweh as his God, his Lord.
7 “When my soul fainted within me,
I remembered the LORD;
And my prayer went up to You,
Into Your holy temple.
When Jonah could not see Him, he remembered Him. When he prayed, He knew the Lord would hear him. No matter what you face, the Lord is not dead, deaf, or missing. The Lord is there to hear your prayer. Even though Jonah brought this mess on himself, the Lord still cared! So when you are in the belly of the whale, and you cannot see Him, hear Him, or know where He is, GOD IS! Do not utterly despair, because He is right where you saw Him last. He is still on the throne and He is still able to answer your prayers. When you cannot see Him, He still sees you.
