Haggai 1:7–11 (NKJV)

7 Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! 8 Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the LORD. 9 “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house. 10 Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. 11 For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.”

The Lord calls the Israelites to “Consider your ways!”  They had lived any way they saw fit for years, and it had eventually brought the judgment of God down upon their heads.  He continues His admonition to them to rebuild the house of God.  Because God was not first, but self, the heavens withheld its moisture, fruit was not produced, drought came on grain, new wine, and oil.  Livestock and labor failed.

When the Lord told them it was not time to rebuild His house in the first six verses, He meant that they could not rebuild His house until they changed their priorities.  They had to put God first over all else.  They had to re-place Him on the throne.  They must worship Him only and not their own lusts.  When they did, they would then be allowed to rebuild His house, and find profit and production in their homes again.  Whatever you are missing, know that when God is first, everything else will fall in place!

  1. 💜I had to quit my job today because it became a choice over it or my special needs daughter. So I quit. Scared to death of struggling again. But I trust that it is God’s will. I have had to work every Sunday and I can’t come to church like I wanted to, like I needed to. So instead of letting if defeat me, even though I’m worried. I’m going trust him and remind myself he has a greater plan.
