Haggai 2:5–9 (NKJV)
5 ‘According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!’
6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
In this passage, the Lord ramps up His promises to the people of God. He reminds them of the covenant He made with Israel as they came out of Egypt. He reaffirms that His Spirit will remain with them, and then He declares that the nations will be shaken, and that they will come to worship Him in His temple. At that time, the glory of the temple will be greater than the former temple, and God will give that place peace.
These promises mirror what God will do for us today. He will be faithful to His covenant, and His Spirit will go with us as we follow Him and obey His commands in a covenantal relationship. He will shake heaven and earth and all nations if necessary to establish His church on earth, and the latter will be greater than the former. So, trust in God. Don’t quit. Don’t lament forever. God will bring the work He started in you to a greater place than ever before if you trust Him unconditionally. The latter glory will be greater than the former!
