1 Corinthians 3:1–4 (NKJV)
1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?
1 Corinthians 3:1-4
Paul mourns the fact that he could not speak to the Corinthians as mature, spiritual people. He characterizes them as babes, needing milk, not solid food. They are unable to receive real food, solid food. He points again to their envy, strife, and divisions. They divide into sects, following certain leaders such as Paul and Apollos, and not truly following Christ alone. This is a call to step up one’s game as a Christian. Christians everywhere must grow up in their faith, becoming mature. This is God’s will, God’s call, God’s command. Follow His instruction and be stronger, older, wiser as a child of God.
