How Do I Love Them?
Dr. Greg Sloop, Lead Pastor
There are lots of souls in the world in need of a Savior. We can ignore them, and remain comfortable in our normal lives. Or, we can change our perspective and see the world differently, and act accordingly. Soul-winning and loving souls demands change and sacrifice, and is not always easy, but it is pleasing to God, which should be one of our highest goals. How do we accomplish this new perspective?
1) Get the mind of Christ
Romans 5:8–10 (NKJV) 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
Christ thought of us as redeemable even before we were redeemed. He saw the potential in our lives. He knew us. If we embrace the same type of hope for the lost, we can imagine and hope for their redemption and future place in the Kingdom of God.
2) Look Through Harvest Eyes
John 4:34–35 (NKJV) 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
When Jesus looked upon Jerusalem, he wept for the condition of the souls living there. He asks us to look on the harvest field in the same way He did, seeing the readiness of the harvest. Living as though revival has already come and gone, or as if it will not come in our lifetimes, is faithless and myopic. Instead, God wants us to see the potential for revival and evangelism in our day. We cannot wait, for the harvest is now!
3) Learn the Saving Word
Ephesians 1:13–14 (NKJV) 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
In Paul’s writings, he alluded to the fact that no one can believe unless they hear the Word. No one can hear unless someone preaches (witnesses). And no one can witness unless they know the Word. It is deeply important to know the Word, understand the Word, apply the Word, and share the Word. Getting into God’s Word will enable and embolden the witness to share the gospel boldly and with excellence.
4) Live in the Spirit
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Paul, in Galatians, said that if one walks in the Spirit, then they would not fulfill the lust of the flesh. If we purpose to walk in the Spirit, not only will be avoid and live above sin, but we will also seek for that deeper walk with God that empowers us to speak boldly to the lost about the blessings of redemption and salvation. With power from God’s Holy Spirit, we can overcome every obstacle, even our own timidity, and win souls through the love of Christ!
