Incest Brings Division (2 Samuel 12:26 – 13:22; 1 Chronicles 20:1 – 3)

Joab took the Royal City of Ammon.  He sent messengers to David to ask for additional assistance to take the rest of Ammon.  David came ands fought against Ammon, and captured the king, and wore his crown.  He took the people of Ammon and put them to work as servants.

Absalom, the son of David, had a sister named Tamar, a lovely girl.Amnon, another son of David, loved her.  He became lovesick for his virgin sister.  His friend counseled him to fake being sick and call for Tamar.  He did this and David sent her to Amnon.  He sent everyone out, asked Tamar to feed him.  When she got close to him, he forced her to have sex with him.  Incest and rape happened in the same act.  She begged him to not do this evil thing, but he did not listen.  After he raped her, he immediately hated her with as deep a hate as the love with which he loved her.  He sent her out of the room.  Tamar put ashes on her head and tore her robe of many colors and cried bitterly.  Absalom questioned her about what happened, and when David heard, he was very angry.  But Absalom did not say anything, yet hated his brother Amnon.

When individuals allow their baser instincts and desires to overwhelm their sense of decency, it never ends up well.  Do not just follow your selfish desires, but seek the will of God and His plan.  Obey His commands and live according to His will.  God will not bless sinful gratification.  And, as we will see in the next blog, trouble will bring division and even death.
