The Cleansing Power of the Word (Psalm 119:9 – 16)

Psalm 119:9–16 (NKJV)

ב Beth

9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O LORD!
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.

The psalmist extols the power of the Word of God to help an individual live a holy life.  A young man can cleanse his ways.  Hiding the Word in my heart keeps me from sin.  Therefore, the psalmist pledges to delight in His statutes and not forget His word.

These Scriptures have been used to encourage and teach young people that the way to avoid sin is to be aware of and live by the Word of God.  However, the truth is real that anyone can live a righteous life if they hide the Word in his or her heart.  Let it get inside your heart and you will have a stronger desire to please God and you will have a deeper knowledge of what He desires for your life.  Get in the Word and you will live better, Christian!
