1 Corinthians 11:2
I have many Bibles in my library. I have brought a few of them to the pulpit today. They have significance for the time when and the place where I received them. I mostly do my Bible reading and devotions on an electronic device these days, but every once in a while I go to the shelf and pull a few of them out just to remember. There is a lesson here for me and for you, I believe. Although we live in a fast-paced world with many distractions and some outright traps, there is still a constant found in the memories of truth that exist in our past
1 Corinthians 11:2 (NKJV) 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.
This letter to the Corinthians was written because the Corinthians had begun to tolerate all types of sin.
Incest, Adultery, Sexual Confusion and disregard for Sexual Norms, Lack of Respect for Authority, Family Role Confusion.
The Church at Corinth was a mess!! It resembles much of the church today. When churches teach that abortion is acceptable in the name of convenience, when churches teach that alternative lifestyles are acceptable for members and ministers, when churches say that divorce for just any reason is acceptable in the name of “happiness,” when churches teach that sin is acceptable and that holiness is a dated concept, we are not far from the position of the Corinthian church.
Although this situation seems intense and worse than ever, the danger has always been present, as evidenced by this list of “Signs That Give Evidence of His Imminent Return (from a sermon by Wade H. Horton at the 1966 General Assembly):”
Lukewarmness in Religion
The increasing divorce and remarriage evil
A departing from the faith
Rebellion of children against their parents
The despising of good people
Professed Christians loving pleasure more than God
Having a form of Godliness, but void of the power of God
Rejection of sound doctrine
Scoffers walking after their own lusts
Worldwide distress and unrest
THIS WORLD IS IN TROUBLE!!!
Remember Those Who Taught and Teach You (Remember Me…)
Keep the Traditions You Have Been Taught (Keep the Traditions…)
Don’t Change the Truth in the Plan (…Just as I Delivered Them to You)
Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”:
Hebrews 13:7–9 (NKJV) 7 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
Jude 16–21 (NKJV) 16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Matthew 7:13–14 (NKJV)
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
There are many paths available to you today in which you may travel. Only One leads to eternal life and blessing.
Acts 24:14 -16
Acts 24:14 But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets. 15 I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. 16 This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
