The Perfect Revelation of the LORD

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.

Psalm 19:1-4
  • The heavens, in fact all of creation, reveals the greatness of Your power and ability.
  • Who could create such a glorious sky than God Himself?
  • Every day and every night Your creations screams of Your knowledge and strength.
  • Even in language and the operations of humanity, the truth of a Grand Design show forth strongly.
  • The beauty of language, literature, and writing have gone around the world, testifying of the Creator’s mark on all of creation.
  • You, O LORD, are mighty and Your creation boasts of Your greatness!

In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
6 Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 19:5-11
  • Lord, You have set a dwelling in the heavens for the sun, from which it emerges daily as a bridegroom, warming and lighting up the earth, its bride.
  • The sun is like a strong man, running through the earth in a day. Nothing is hidden from its heat and light. You are the architect of the earth, the builder of its foundations, the finisher of its beauty, the sustainer of its glory. The earth exists because of You.
  • Your law is perfect and whole. Your gospel saves the soul. Your teachings make the simple wise. Your statutes make my heart rejoice, for in them are wisdom. Your commandments are true and they enlighten my way.
  • I fear You, O LORD, not because You are against me, but because You are great. Make me clean, keep me eternally by Your word.
  • Your word is precious, more desirable to consume than gold, even the finest, most pure, gold. You are valuable beyond measure. Thank you for sharing Your great words and judgments!
  • Your word is sweeter than honey, dripping from the honeycomb.
  • By Your word I can live well, and avoid danger in this world. In Your word is the key to great reward here and in heaven.
  • Lord, strengthen me that I may obey Your word and grow in wisdom and knowledge in You. Help me to reject the insolent ways of the culture around me and dwell in the depth of Your word.

12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Psalm 19:12-14
  • Lord, who can know what he is doing wrong? How can a man or woman change their evil ways to good?
  • Cleanse me even from my unknown faults. Reveal to me where I need to change and I will change.
  • Keep me from diving into sin ignorantly. Enlighten my eyes that I may see.
  • Show me the stumbling blocks in my path and let my foolish flesh not cause me to fall.
  • Give me dominion over my sins that I can stand before You blameless and holy. I long to please You by my innocence and my rejection of evil.
  • Let my communication and my thoughts be right and pleasing before You, O LORD.
  • You are my strength in times of weakness and my Redeemer in my weakness. You are my Rock, and in You I have no fear!
