Jehu gathered the people and feigned to worship Baal. He gathered all the prophets and worshippers of Baal into the temple of Baal, and then instructed them to make sure that there was no servant of the Lord in the temple. At the same time, eighty men of Jehu were stationed outside the temple and prepared to kill all the worshippers of Baal. They then brought the sacred pillars of Baal out of the temple and broke them down. Jehu wiped Baal out of Israel. However, Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam and the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan. God promised to him that he would have an heir on the throne to the fourth generation.
Jehu continued his purging of the land. He used deception to bring all the worshippers of Baal into the temple for destruction. He then had done a great deal for the cause of God, but stopped short of clearing out the golden calves of Jeroboam. While he truly stood up for God in many situations, he stopped short of making a complete purge. Two things to think about: Be zealous for the Lord in removing idols from your life, and don’t stop short of clearing out the demonic and idolatrous in your life!
