David tells all the wonderful joy he finds in the Lord as the king of Israel. He speaks of how the Lord’s salvation makes him rejoice, His provision and His answering of prayer gives the king joy. David then goes on to discuss the blessings of God, the crown upon his head, the long life, the honor and majesty placed upon the king, and the fact that the king can trust him completely. David then talks about how all his enemies were destroyed by the Lord, and their offspring and all their descendants would be destroyed as well. He sums up his thoughts:
Psalm 21:13 (NKJV)
13 Be exalted, O LORD, in Your own strength!
We will sing and praise Your power.
In tough political climates, it can be frightening to think of the future of a nation, state, or region if ungodly leaders take office. David was a Godly leader, knowing from whence came his power and authority, his military victories, his prosperity, and any other blessing upon him and his kingdom. God, help us to have leaders that fear you and realize from whence comes their help!
