1 Hear my prayer, O LORD,
Give ear to my supplications!
In Your faithfulness answer me,
And in Your righteousness.
2 Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no one living is righteous.
- Hear me, Lord! Please listen to my prayer of supplication.
- You are faithful God. You are righteous Lord.
- In Your wonderful ways, answer my prayer.
- Do not give me what I deserve, for I cannot serve You when I am dead.
- Only the living may serve You, and none of us are righteous.
- We have all strayed from the path at times and displeased You.
3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in darkness,
Like those who have long been dead.
4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart within me is distressed.
- My enemies pursue me with zeal. They seek to take my life.
- I feel the earth coming over my face at times, blocking out the sun and blanketing me in darkness.
- I am overwhelmed with grief and despair. Distress floods my mind and emotions, and I do not know what to do.
- Lord, when I cannot see the light of day, show me Your light and make me whole!
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all Your works;
I muse on the work of Your hands.
6 I spread out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You like a thirsty land.Selah
- I remember the paths I have walked, and the way that Your Spirit walked with me and guided me.
- I think deeply about Your works unto me–the way You have saved me and kept me.
- I consider the complexity and beauty of Your creation, and I am in awe.
- I reach outward with my arms, in a sign of surrender and plead for You.
- I am like dry earth in need of rain. I long for You, O LORD.
- Come to me and give me nourishment and solace. You are my only hope in this life, O God.
- I wait and think and ponder all Your glory, and I cannot even imagine that You love me. Thank You, O LORD.
