Laboring and Prospering with the LORD

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the LORD guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

  • Lord, I long for Your guidance and direction. Lead me in the ways of life.
  • This life I live, let it be according to Your plan.
  • I need You to build my house, to make it sure and secure.
  • I do not wish to spend my days in vanity, missing the opportunities to please You that may come my way.
  • Guard my thoughts and actions from evil. I have no desire to protect myself, for I am without the ability that You possess to see and know the evil that seeks my life.
  • Give me peace and safety, that I may rest in You and be at ease.
  • I do not want to lie awake and be sorrowful at my plight. I long to sleep in peace because my Lord watches over me.
  • Thank You for my children and grandchildren. They give me joy and make me know that the future is bright.
  • Let my heritage be one of Godliness and holiness.
  • Help my children to go forward in the harvest field and reap what I have sown. Let their children eat from the fields I and my children have planted.
  • Let my children go forth like an army and save souls from an evil world.
  • I thank You for the arrows You have provided for my bow. I send them forth with anointing to win. I will not be ashamed. Instead, I will be proud and will celebrate their accomplishments in You!
